Make Believe

“Tick-Tock, Tick-Tock- the sound of the clock Will. Not. Stop. Not stop! Fast, fast- we must RUN or be last! Last will not do; this is true. ‘Last’ makes me blue. So, on and brisk! Brisk and quick! You got me, and I got you! Let’s show them what we can do!” James said.

His mother looked at him with confusion and worry, “Winning isn’t everything, James. You’re too young to understand this. Honestly, I didn’t fully understand this lesson in my thirties, much less when I was six. But it’s true. Even the hardest worker and the strongest soldier can fail. You see, it is our failures that are our greatest lessons. Why would you be sad over being last? Being last should never cause you to go into such a state. Winning, just like losing, is an illusion.”
